About the Kyrgyz Republic 

The Kyrgyz Republic is located in the north-east of Central Asia. The territory of the Kyrgyz Republic extends from west to east for 900 km, from north to south for 410 km and lies approximately between 39 and 43 degrees north latitude.

The area is 199.9 thousand sq. km. The average height of the territory above sea level is 2750 m, the highest height is 7439 m (Victory Peak), the lowest height is 394 m (in the south-west of the republic).

The population of the Kyrgyz Republic is multi-ethnic, with more than 90 nations and peoples. The main population is Kyrgyz people (69%). The total population in the Republic is more than 6.5 million people.

The Kyrgyz Republic is a mountainous country (94% - mountains, 6% - plains). The highest elevated part of the territory of the Republic is its eastern outskirts. Here, on the border with China, are the highest points of the entire Tien Shan mountain system - Victory Peak (7439 m) and Khan Tengri (6995 m).

The highest and most powerful ranges, reaching 4500–7000 m in height, are located in the outskirts of the Tien Shan. These are Kakshaal - Too in the southeast, Alai and Turkestan – in the southwest, Talas and Kyrgyz ranges in the northwest and north, Kungei Ala-Too in the northwest and north. On the border of the Republic with Tajikistan stands out the highest Chon-Alai (Trans-Alay) ridge, where the second highest peak of Kyrgyzstan is located - Lenin Peak (7134 m).
